                              -OR-
Microsoft ® Windows Server 2003 (Standard and Enterprise) with Service Pack 1 or greater*

Hardware

PC Servers (2 or more for Network Edition)

  • 1 Ghz or greater CPU; Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD Athlon/Duron family

  • Two or more processors

  • Internet/LAN connection

  • 1 Boot drive/per server

  • 65 MB available hard disk space

  • 1 GB   memory minimum, more as required by your configuration

  • 2 or more Fibre Channel adapters or Ethernet network cards for iSCSI. Appropriate drivers must be installed.

  • Mouse/pointing device

  • Video card with minimum of 1024x768 resolution and "High-Color" or "True Color" modes (setting > 256 colors).

Note: These video card settings allow SANsymphony graphics to display correctly. Lower color resolution will cause bitmaps to display incorrectly but will not affect the functionality of SANsymphony.

Refer to the DataCore Qualification List on our Technical Support Web site for additional hardware information.

Providing storage capacity to another application

Any storage device that is qualified to work with Microsoft Windows, by extension, can be managed by SANsymphony. For example, any of the following:

  • Directly-connected disk array (SCSI, F/C, iSCSI, SSA, SAS, SATA, ATA, or IDE)

  • Fibre channel switch-connected

  • Hub-connected disk array.

Configuring systems with greater than 4GB of RAM

If your storage server has greater than 4 GB of RAM, then the / PAE switch must be added to the appropriate line in boot.ini.

Before installing SANsymphony, refer to Bulletin #7: Notes on Configuring System RAM for Storage Servers on our Technical Support Web site for complete information and updates.

Providing High Availability over iSCSI

Before installing or upgrading SANsymphony, install the latest Microsoft Initiator package for iSCSI initiator from www.Microsoft.com on all storage servers to be used as initiators. This includes all storage servers to be used for mirroring over iSCSI, in which case, storage servers will act both as initiator and target.

Important: During installation of the MS Initiator, do not install the option Microsoft MPIO Multipathing Support for iSCSI (even if running MPIO) as this will prevent iSCSI mirrors from working properly.

Important Notes

  • Before installing or upgrading, read all Release Notes, Errata, and Read Me sheets provided on our Web site and with the software.

  • When installing SANsymphony, log on to Windows as Administrator or as a member of the local Administrators group.

  • Do not install SANsymphony software on a Microsoft Cluster Node.

  • System cannot have domain controller services installed.

  • Do not change the computer name of a storage server after SANsymphony software has been installed.

  • Do not use underscores in the computer name.

  • Configurations are governed by license and support parameters.
